The right care for low-lipid skin
The menopause is a time of change that brings many physical effects for women. Some of these changes also affect the skin – it becomes thinner, drier, and loses volume and firmness. Women are not "mature" just because they are in their mid-40s, we believe at SKINUANCE®. The skin just needs a little more attention and targeted, effective care.
What is low-lipid skin and how does it develop?
Dryness, dull skin, a rough surface, and low elasticity are all signs of a lipid deficiency in the skin.
Lipids are skin-own fatty acids that our skin produces on its own and are important for a healthy and intact skin barrier. They protect the skin from transepidermal water loss (TEWL), provide a protective layer for the skin, and keep harmful influences like microorganisms at bay. Lipids smooth the skin surface, strengthen the skin barrier, make the skin supple, and have anti-inflammatory effects.
However, with increasing age, this important production of lipids in the skin gradually decreases. The skin becomes drier and the surface rougher. The skin's own protective barrier is weakened and more susceptible to irritation.
Low-lipid skin can also occur in young people, but it is often closely linked to the natural aging process. Over the years, and especially during menopause, women's natural production of estrogen and progesterone decreases. This is also noticeable in the skin. Estrogen is partly responsible for collagen production, and as estrogen levels drop, the production of collagen fibers and the collagen molecules and peptides contained in them also decreases. The skin becomes saggy, its natural elasticity decreases, and deeper wrinkles form. The sebaceous glands also lose activity over the course of life and produce less protective lipids and sebum. As a result, the skin becomes thinner and drier. Now, the right care is even more important.
Caring for low-lipid skin
When caring for low-fat skin, it is especially important to provide the skin with ample moisture and protect it from drying out – supporting it in maintaining its natural barrier function intact and healthy.
With the right skincare, it is possible to positively stimulate the production of the skin's own collagen and hyaluronic acid, promoting cell renewal and enzyme activity in the skin. This leads to an improvement in skin structure.
Carefully processed, skin-identical lipids replace the decreased natural lipid production and stimulate it anew. The result is a firmer, smoother, and more youthful appearance of the skin:
- The SKINUANCE® MIMIC WRINKLE SERUM with a Botox®-like effect tightens expression lines and reduces their formation. The anti-aging serum also stimulates cell renewal and collagen synthesis. Skin regeneration is promoted and elasticity is improved.
- The SKINUANCE® FACE CREAM RICH intensive cream with a higher lipid content smooths and tightens thanks to high molecular hyaluronic acid, binds moisture intensively, and visibly plumps the skin. Skin-identical vegan squalane oil acts as a lipid, improves moisture retention, and maintains skin oil production. Carrot and soybean oil help prevent skin aging.
- The SKINUANCE® REGENERATING FACE CREAM with increased lipid content acts as a cell-regenerating intensive cream. Retinol increases enzyme activity and collagen content in the skin, plumps it up, regenerates prematurely aged skin, and reduces UV light-induced pigment shifts. Evening primrose oil increases skin elasticity and strengthens the barrier function.
- The SKINUANCE® FRUIT ACID CREAM also stimulates collagen synthesis, reduces lines and wrinkles, and smooths the skin. Skin-identical vegan squalane oil and skin-identical glycerin bind moisture intensively. Skin-identical lecithin regenerates, and red grape extract delays the cell aging process.
- The SKINUANCE® EYE CREAM LIGHT also contains the skin-identical lipid squalane oil. Centella asiatica promotes collagen synthesis, stimulates skin repair, and provides skin tightening.
- The SKINUANCE® EYE CREAM RICH with hyaluronic acid stimulates collagen synthesis and helps to firm the skin structure. Lady's mantle extract has a tightening effect and inhibits the breakdown of elastin. Beeswax supports cell regeneration and keeps the skin firm and elastic. Jojoba oil as a liquid wax forms a breathable film on the skin, thus protecting it from moisture loss. Shea butter has a moisturizing effect and strengthens the lipid barrier of the stratum corneum.
