Frequently Asked Questions

My cream is not absorbing properly. What can I do?

If the skin becomes increasingly flaky and rough with age, feels dry again immediately despite frequent moisturizing, and the skin cream does not absorb, we would recommend an exfoliation. This allows the top layer of dead skin, i.e., the dead skin flakes that still lie on the skin's surface like small "roof tiles," to be gently removed. The dead skin cells only superficially absorb the care product, and the moisture evaporates immediately. Thus, the skin cream does not penetrate the skin at all. Through gentle exfoliation, the blocking "roof tiles" are loosened, making the skin more receptive to care, smoother, and more even. This way, the moisturizing serum or moisturizer can optimally penetrate the skin and unfold its effect. For this purpose, either a good enzyme peel (for example, the SKINUANCE ENZYME CLEANSER & PEELING) or a mild fruit acid cream (FRUIT ACID CREAM) is suitable.

Which sunscreen is suitable for sensitive skin?

If the skin is very sensitive, heat rash occurs in the sun, and allergic reactions to sunscreens happen, the sun protection should be adjusted. For a sunscreen for sensitive skin, we would recommend a high sun protection factor and a light cream texture that does not unnecessarily weigh down the skin and clog the pores. It is important for sensitive skin to use a sunscreen as free from fragrances as possible. Nourishing additives and vitamin E as an antioxidant (free radical scavenger) should ideally also be included. An example of a sunscreen for sensitive skin is the fragrance-free and light SKINUANCE SUN DEFENCE 50+ sun protection, which is designed for very sensitive and allergy-prone skin and is also suitable for children's skin from 3 years old.

Why doesn't SKINUANCE use UV filters in their day creams?

SKINUANCE therefore does not use UV filters in its day care because we pursue the approach of concentrating and minimizing our formulations to the essentials. This means that we use few but highly concentrated active ingredients. At the same time, we avoid additives that are not absolutely necessary. This also applies to UV filters. The daily use of UV filters with facial care would mean a permanent penetration of the skin with filters, even if one is, for example, not exposed to the sun at all or only briefly during lunch breaks. For a short time, we also recommend conscious sun exposure to absorb vitamin D. The burden of filters can lead to allergies and resistances. In the worst case, one may eventually become unable to tolerate any UV filters at all. Therefore, we recommend supplementing your favorite care as needed and precisely with a sun protection (for example with the SKINUANCE SUN DEFENCE 50+) or applying it over/under the day care.

What skincare can I use after laser treatments, chemical peels, and aesthetic procedures?

Are preservatives included in SKINUANCE products?

Preservatives prevent germs and bacteria from settling and multiplying in care products. Unfortunately, very few care products come without preservatives. This is especially true for water-based products, where they are usually indispensable. However, at SKINUANCE, we use as few preservatives as possible in the lowest possible dosage. This is made possible, among other things, by our airless dispensers. These are designed so that the product in the dispenser does not come into contact with the skin or the air. This minimizes contamination compared to cream jars, which come into contact with fingers and air daily. Therefore, we hardly need and use preservatives for our products.

What is the suitable facial care for couperose? What should I pay attention to with couperose?

The characteristics of couperose are enlarged blood vessels and reddened, dry skin, as well as increased sensitivity. The skin barrier is compromised, and the skin is more prone to irritations. Therefore, products for skincare for couperose should not contain stimulating active ingredients. Caffeine, for example, is considered stimulating and could potentially exacerbate the redness.

For facial care for couperose, we recommend skincare products that are rather sensitive and soothing, which do not contain irritating fragrances, strong preservatives, or harsh surfactants.

The following from our range would be well suited:

However, a mild fruit acid cream (SKINUANCE FRUIT ACID CREAM) is also effective, providing very nice results for couperose. It works very gently, makes the skin more resilient over time, soothes irritations, and repairs the skin barrier. However, this is individually dependent on the sensation. Often, the feeling of slight warmth and possible brief light redness in couperose is already perceived as uncomfortable.

Contributing factors also include lifestyle and diet. For example, abstaining from alcohol, spicy, irritating spices, coffee and tea, and strong temperature changes mitigates the effects of couperose.

What can I do for sensitive and dry skin in winter?

When the skin is dry, particularly sensitive, red, and irritated in winter, one can take "anti-frost" measures for the skin. At +8 °C, our sebaceous glands produce significantly less skin's own lipids. Therefore, skincare in the colder season should generally be much richer, meaning it should contain more oils. Water-in-oil emulsions are the right way to go here. They seal and protect the skin, keep out the cold, and prevent skin moisture from evaporating, thus keeping the skin from becoming dry. Too light or watery creams "freeze" on the surface of the skin. A layering method would be particularly suitable for winter skincare, i.e., after thorough cleansing, apply one to two deeply penetrating serums in succession and then seal them in with a rich cream. At least one serum should also contain very intense moisture, ideally with varying lengths of hyaluronic acid chains that penetrate the different layers of the skin and hydrate them very intensely and long-lasting.

How can I protect my skin from the sun and harmful environmental influences?

In addition to sunscreen, active ingredients of natural origin such as ectoin or beta-glucan (schizophyllan) can protect the skin from damage caused by UV light and harmful environmental influences. They protect cell DNA and strengthen the skin's immune system anew every day. They reduce structural damage to skin cells, alleviate redness, and soothe stressed skin. Beta-carotene also prevents skin aging due to its antioxidant effect. Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory properties and stimulates cell regeneration. Skin damage, for example from UV radiation (sunburn), can be reduced as a result. The lipophilic vitamin has a strong antioxidant effect, binds free radicals, and thus slows down oxidation processes. As small bodyguards, these active ingredients protect the skin cells preventively from the sun or other harmful environmental influences.

Well suited here are, for example:

Vitamin E in antioxidant-effective amounts is included in our following products:

What is the correct application of the fruit acid cream FRUIT ACID CREAM in combination with a serum?

For the application of the fruit acid cream in combination with a serum, always first cleanse the face and clarify with toner. Then, apply the fruit acid cream first, followed by the serum, and depending on the need, a sealing facial care afterwards. The fruit acid cream SKINUANCE FRUIT ACID CREAM has the property of deeply penetrating active ingredients into the skin. Therefore, the effect of a serum is significantly enhanced after the application of the fruit acid cream.

Why apply a serum?

Serums are considered the stars for the skin. A serum contains about ten times the amount of biologically active ingredients of a cream. It is a concentrate that works faster and more intensely.
